Colombia is quietly one of the world’s standout equity markets of 2026. The iCOLCAP ETF is up about 22% in pesos, Ecopetrol has gained 44%, and the Grupo Sura holding company is up more than 30%. Add a peso that has strengthened 16.6% against the dollar, and a dollar-based investor who bought Colombian stocks in January is up roughly 49%, far ahead of the S&P 500. This report ranks the 25 best-performing stocks on the Colombian Stock Exchange (BVC), reviews the market’s most-traded names, and shows what $200 invested on Jan. 1 would be worth today.
The top 25 Colombian stocks average +24.6% in pesos. Because the peso also rallied, $200 converted in January (about COP 754,700) and spread across them would be worth about COP 940,000, or roughly $299, a 49% gain in dollars. Oil (Ecopetrol), holding companies (Sura, Argos) and banks (Cibest, Davivienda) lead. Laggards include Nu’s BVC listing (−38.9%), PEI (−14.9%) and Celsia (−5.4%).

Ecopetrol would have turned $200 into about $345; Grupo Sura into $316; Cibest, the parent of Bancolombia, into $306. The iCOLCAP ETF: about $292. For a dollar investor, the 2026 story is a double tailwind: rising stocks and a rising currency.
What drove the rally
- Oil: Brent near $115 lifted Ecopetrol 44% despite persistent governance concerns.
- Holding-company re-rating: Grupo Sura (+31.7%; preferred +39.2%) and Grupo Argos (+16.1%) benefited from simpler structures and a narrowing discount to the value of their portfolios.
- Banks: Cibest (+27.7%) and Davivienda Group (+29.8%) gained on high interest rates that support margins.
- Gold: Mineros (+27.9%) rode gold above $4,000 an ounce.
- Outlier: ETB (+160.2%) tops the table on minimal volume, a reminder to read thin-market moves cautiously.

The split is sharp: Ecopetrol, Cibest and Grupo Sura deliver 25%–44%, while utilities Celsia and Promigas, Banco de Bogotá, Terpel and Grupo Aval’s preferred shares are negative in pesos (though most are positive in dollar terms thanks to the currency). Nu’s local listing is down 38.9%: brand familiarity is not a return driver.
Colombia vs. Wall Street in 2026
In dollar terms, Colombia has outperformed the S&P 500 by roughly three to four times this year. Compare with the 25 best-performing U.S. stocks of 2026.
Critical take: sustainable or a catch-up trade?
It started from deep value. Colombian equities spent years among the cheapest in Latin America. Much of 2026’s gain is a re-rating from distressed levels rather than proof of a structural turnaround.
Fiscal risk has not gone away. 10-year TES yields above 13% and a five-year CDS above Brazil’s signal real stress in public finances (see our TES guide). High local rates compete with equities.
Oil dependence cuts both ways. Ecopetrol carries significant index weight; a lower Brent removes the market’s biggest engine.
Currency gains can reverse. The peso’s 16.6% rally amplified dollar returns. A reversal would shrink them just as fast.
Liquidity is thin. Several top performers barely trade; foreign investors should expect wider spreads and slower execution.
Dividends are excluded. Ecopetrol, Cibest, ISA and GEB pay sizable dividends; total returns would be higher. See the Colombian dividend calendar 2026.
