For anyone holding Colombian assets in dollars, Friday, October 30, 2026 is a currency event first and an equity event second. Banco de la República announces its rate decision after 1:00 p.m. Colombia time (2:00 p.m. ET), with surveys pointing to a 25-basis-point hike. A hike would widen Colombia’s rate premium over the U.S., the engine behind this year’s roughly 20% peso rally. COLCAP heads in at 2,491.37, below 2,500, with USD/COP at 3,169.
Watch three things: the central bank’s decision and tone (a hike is largely priced in), Nutresa’s quarterly results, and oil, which drives Ecopetrol after a 2% drop Thursday. U.S. investors can trade Colombia during New York hours through the EC and CIB ADRs.

| If the central bank… | Peso | Colombian equities (USD terms) |
|---|---|---|
| Hikes 25 bp (expected) | Modest support | Little change; banks may lag |
| Holds | Could weaken | Relief for banks and holdings, offset by FX |
| Hikes 50 bp | Could strengthen | Pressure on rate-sensitive sectors, cushioned by FX |
How to get exposure from the U.S.
- Ecopetrol (EC): the market’s heaviest weight; tracks oil and governance headlines.
- Bancolombia/Cibest (CIB): the bellwether bank; sensitive to the rate path.
- Currency: each 1% move in USD/COP shifts your dollar return by about the same amount.
- Liquidity: local shares can be thin; ADRs are easier to trade from U.S. accounts.

A 25-basis-point hike is mostly priced in, so the surprise would come from the statement. Signals of further tightening would support the peso but weigh on banks and utilities, the sectors that have kept COLCAP stuck below 2,500. For U.S.-based holders, the currency has been the main source of 2026 returns; Friday is a reminder that it can reverse just as quickly.
